When using COMM, the program appears to run but I don't hear the audio Briefing, and each time I try to transmit during the Practice I am prompted to hold down the mouse button and say the full sentence. Why is this happening?

It sounds like you need to go back and reinstall the QuickTime software that came on your CD.
