Why is it when I try to run COMM1 in Windows, the program launches, then just sits there?

With some laptops running Windows98, the program seems to "hang up" when it begins to launch. Try upgrading to the latest release of Windows98, by using the Windows Updater function on your TaskBar or on the Start Menu. Also check the following:

  • Check for the latest drivers from your manufacturer’s web site.
  • Be sure all other programs are shut down when running COMM1.
  • Check that these files are installed in your System directory: msvcrt.dll and msvfw32.dll. (The System directory is usually located at C:\Windows\System.) If you don’t have these files, then use your system disk to install the system multimedia components.
  • There is a work around to opening your Comm1 should you encounter this issue.

    1. Close all applications and open Windows Explorer by right clicking on the Start menu.

    2. Go to Explore. From Windows Explorer locate the hard drive (typically the C drive) and then the Comm1 Radio Simulator folder within the C drive. Then go to the VFR or IFR folder, whichever program they are running.

    3. Within that folder, double click on the Comm1.exe (this is the Comm1 executable and will launch the program).

    4. When the hour glass appears during Comm1 setup, press Alt+Tab; this will take you back to Windows Explorer.

    5. Once back at Windows Explorer, press Alt+Tab again to take you back to the Comm1 loading screen. The program will then start.
