Why do I get the Windows error message "You must insert the COMM1 CD before running the program" even though the CD is in the drive?

This could be one of several things:

  • Check to see if you have a zip drive. If so place a zip disk in the drive.

  • You must run the COMM1 program, called COMM1.exe, from the installed directory on your hard drive and NOT from the CD-ROM.

To run the VFR program, go to your Windows Start menu and select Programs > COMM1 Radio Simulator > COMM1 Radio Simulator - VFR .

To run the IFR program, go to your Windows Start menu and select Programs > COMM1 Radio Simulator > COMM1 Radio Simulator - IFR.

To run the Clearances on Request program, go to your Windows Start menu and select Programs > COMM1 Radio Simulator > COMM1 Clearances on Request.

  • There is a known bug in COMM1 VFR version 1.0-1.2 with customized installations. If you choose to install COMM1 VFR to a custom directory instead of to the default directory (C:\COMM1 Radio Simulator) the installer suggests, then a necessary file will be copied to the wrong place on your hard drive. If you changed the default install location for COMM1 VFR:

  1. Use Windows Explorer to go to C:\COMM1 Radio Simulator\VFR\lingo.ini.
  2. Copy the lingo.ini file.
  3. Go to the location on your hard disk where you installed COMM1 VFR.
  4. Open the directory and paste the lingo.ini file with the COMM1.exe file.

  • Notebook users: Make sure your CD-ROM drive is not set to a short interval to "spin down," "sleep," or "energy save."
