How do I install QuickTime from the CD in Windows?

<< Previous | Top ^ | Next >>

If you neglected to install QuickTime during COMM1 setup, you may install QuickTime from the CD . There are different versions that come with Comm1. Comm1 VFR (Versions 1.0-1.2) has Quicktime version 2.1.2, Comm1 VFR (Version 2.0) has Quicktime Version 7.1, IFR has version 3.0, and Clearances on Request comes with 4.0. You may see more than one version of QuickTime on your system at the same time. That's OK! Do not delete other versions! These different versions are required by other applications. Removing these other QT versions may cause the programs not to run.

VFR (Versions 1.0-1.2) and IFR

  1. Exit any open programs.
  2. Place COMM1 CD in CD-Rom.
  3. Go to your desktop and find the icon for "My Computer." Double-click on the icon to launch My Computer. You will now have a window listing your hard drive(s), floppy drive, and CD-ROM drive.
  4. Double-click on the Comm1CD icon in the list. You will see a list of all the files on the CD.
  5. Find the file QT32inst.exe. Double-click on QT32inst.exe to run the QuickTime installer. If the installer finds another version of QuickTime, click "Skip"; it is O.K. to have two versions of QuickTime installed on your computer since different programs may use different versions.
  6. At the end of the install you will be given the option of playing a sample movie. Play the movie to make sure that the install worked. After you play the sample movie, exit MoviePlayer and the installer, if it is still running.
